How to make shirt interlining

A shirt interlining is a piece of fabric placed between the two layers of shirt cloth, which makes it stiffer. This fabric also gives extra strength to stressed areas. Some shirts are made without interlining, especially heavy-cloth shirts since fusing is possible. But this type of interlining isn't always necessary, and can actually make a shirt look more attractive and control the shape of its garments. For this reason, many shirts are now made with interlining.
The first step in sewing shirt interlining is to lay the fabric and the interlining together. You'll be joining the two layers with a lining. Remember to measure both fabric and interlining before you start stitching. The interlining panel will be closer to the body than the main fabric, and therefore be slightly smaller. If the two pieces are the same size, the underlayer will get crumpled. This means you have to take special care when stitching the interlining to the main fabric.
Next, is the interlining collar. In a fused collar, the interlining is heated and glued together. A stiff collar is a preferred style for most dress shirts. However, this type of collar can sometimes bubble after some wear. The best way to prevent this from happening is by purchasing a high-end fused collar machine. And if you're still in doubt, consider getting a professional tailor to help you select the right shirt interlining.
Shirt interlining can be either knit or non-woven. Knitted interlining is used mainly in knit garments, where the outer shell has stretchable areas. Knitted fabrics have many loop structures that help them provide flexibility, stretch, body, and strength. When fusing two fabrics together, knitted interlinings provide extra strength while maintaining a soft feel. They are typically used in higher-end garments.
